Royal Greenwich is undergoing a huge transformation Crossrail is coming to the Borough and we are developing land, buildings and new transport links to create a living and working destination of choice.

Transportation plays a key role in the regeneration of the Borough and part of its function is to promote and provide for active modes of travel to encourage an uptake in sustainable transport. This is achieved through a variety of behaviour change/complementary measures, working closely with strategic transportation teams.

A passion for cycling and a wealth of experience cycling in London is essential to provide positive and credible leadership for behaviour change towards cycling in Royal Greenwich (RBG). Therefore, we are seeking to recruit a highly organised and creative people-person to take up this key position. The role will have a particular focus on successful implementation of schemes within Royal Greenwich’s Cycling Strategy Action Plan. This involves designing and managing the provision of Royal Greenwich’s cycling behaviour change programme. You will collaborate with a huge variety of local, regional and national stakeholders to deliver a varied and exciting programme including; community or religious groups, schools, charities, cycling groups/clubs, Transport for London, Tenants and Residents Associations, The Association of Bikeability Schemes, other Local Authorities and many more. The ability to positively engage people from all walks of life is essential to maximise the profile and quality of the programme we deliver.

In particular, you will co-ordinate the Royal Borough’s cycle skills programme (in conjunction with an externally appointed contractor, who will deliver the training). As such, experience delivering cycle skills training in a variety of settings as a fully accredited cycling instructor is a highly desirable quality.

RBG’s wider cycling behaviour change programme includes; Dr bikes, maintenance courses, bike recycling, Exchanging Places/HGV cycle safety events, provision of secure cycle parking, the ‘build a bike’ project, family bike weeks and many more. The successful candidate will have support to deliver this wide ranging programme but will be expected to shape, lead and take ownership of the programme as a whole.

You will have experience of sustainable transport policy, planning and funding, and partnership working specifically in cycling programmes. A good understanding of the local government framework within which the service operates is desirable. You will also need a comprehensive knowledge of computer based systems in order to fulfil your role, part of which includes researching and analysing information and data and reporting at various levels on the outcome of that work. You must be a strong communicator with good interpersonal skills with an appropriate professional or academic qualification. An enhanced DBS check will be required to carry out the duties of this role – RBG will process this on behalf of the successful applicant.
