Hackney is London's most diverse, dynamic neighbourhood. Reaching from the Square Mile to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in technology, media, fashion and other creative industries. Hackney has more green spaces than any other inner London borough; some of the capital's finest schools; first class transport connections; excellent public services; and thriving arts, cultural and retail sectors. We seek people with ambition, creativity and commitment to ensure our economic growth provides benefits for everyone and creates opportunities to transform the lives of residents.

Based within Neighbourhood and Housing Directorate, our Streetscene Service ensures Hackney is clean, safe and accessible for residents, businesses and visitors. The Streetscene team is responsible for the design and maintenance of all highway networks, footways, bridges and lighting on all public roads, contributing to the wellbeing of our community and creating a sustainable public realm.

We are looking for 2 Senior Traffic Engineers to join our team to help deliver effective Capital and Revenue investments programmes to our local community. They will have experience of working as part of a team developing concepts, feasibility, preliminary, initial design, consultation, detailed design and ultimately implementation for multi modal or mode specific traffic engineering schemes, urban realm and public transport improvements. The roles would suit motivated individuals looking to advance their career in a dynamic team.

Applicants will have post qualification experience in Civil Engineering and/or significant experience in Traffic Management; Road Safety Engineering or Urban Realm and Public Transport improvement schemes. Applicants will also have excellent written and communication skills as well as good time and budgetary management skills.

Applicants will also have a minimum of four years traffic, highway and/or civil engineering experience and also be experienced in supervising, motivating and empowering a busy, motivated and diverse workforce. A qualification and membership of, or eligibility for membership of, a relevant professional body is desirable. On occasion you will be making presentations at public forums within a diverse community as well as communicating with Council Members, colleagues and other stakeholders and so the ability to communicate effectively is imperative. The ability to plan, monitor and manage complex projects and programmes is essential and you will be ICT-savvy, ready to develop your own skills and those of others. You must be available to attend meetings outside normal working hours.

At Hackney, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high-profile organisation.
