Atkins have recently enjoyed several major projects wins including Cornwall Capacity Enhancement, Norwich Yarmouth Lowestoft resignalling and Shepperton resignalling projects.

Atkins are therefore seeking to recruit, experienced, enthusiastic, flexible and highly skilled signalling biased engineers into our Signalling Systems Practice to be a senior design or engineering managers.

Atkins has one of the UK Rail industry’s largest signalling engineering teams and as such you will be joining our Signalling Systems Practice which comprises a team of over 100 professional signalling design personnel, project engineers and engineering managers. This, together with Atkins broader cross discipline capability and our Global Design Centre, means our engineers have an unrivalled collective knowledge to tap into and learn from.

ROLE

This role is that of a senior leader within the project or design team with responsibility for all engineering or design aspects of the project. Depending on role reporting will be to the Project Director, Design Head or Signalling Systems Practice Manager – Delivery. The person filling this role will also be the Contractor’s Engineering Manager (CEM) or Contrator’s Responsible Engineer for projects, and will provide leadership to engineers and teams.

Primary functions of the role include :
• Providing leadership to, and coordinating the efforts of engineering / design teams
• Setting the safety and engineering culture for the project
• Actively engaging with clients, winning work, and technically leading tenders
• Understanding contractual requirements and communicating these to the engineering / design teams team
• Acting as the focal point for technical issues/co-ordination between Atkins, Sub-contractors and the Client or leading this interaction from a design perspective
• Addressing and resolving scope cost changes and schedule impact issues with the Project Manager
• Ensuring achievement of safety, quality, schedule and cost objectives
• Addressing engineering / design teams personnel performance issues
• Developing and co-ordinating Engineering subcontracts
• Leading / participating inter disciplinary communication, activies and reviews
• Actively managing the engineering / design budget and supporting the project’s commercial objectives
• Assisting with project closeout and hand over of deliverables to the Client
• Supporting the collective learning of the organisation.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential Qualifications and Experience
• Extensive UK signalling project engineering or design experience
• Extensive senior leadership experience
• Experience of undertaking CEM / CRE / DPE responsibilities on Network Rail infrastructure
• Understanding of risk management, CDM and CSM

Desirable Qualifications and Experience
• Chartered Engineer
• Holds applicable IRSE Licence(s)
• Full Corporate Member of the IRSE
• Experience of introducing new equipment / systems onto the rail network

LOCATION

With offices in Glasgow, York, Croydon, Swindon and Birmingham we offer flexibility in location.

The role will be office based, but the candidate will be required to work at other project sites / offices.
