This is a key role within our Highways and Transport Shared Service. Based in our Design & Delivery team in Sutton you will be responsible for the successful design and implementation of around half the infrastructure improvement annual programmes and projects, such as highway improvements, traffic management schemes and highway structures projects. You will be expected to guide each through the various design stages, including concept design and detail design, that are commissioned by the Strategy and Commissioning Team, as well as by other internal and external clients.
You'll need to prove you have the relevant technical, contractual and legislative knowledge, as well as a proven record of delivery in a local authority environment. As you'll be responsible for managing Engineers, you must also be able to support and empower staff whilst being proficient in scheme design. You will also need to be an effective performance manager, and a role model in taking an innovative and commercial outlook to the work of the team. Finally, you’ll need to be a skilled and effective communicator with colleagues, the public and members, as well as our partners.

For all roles your work with us will help ensure our highways and transport infrastructure is safe, fit for purpose, sustainable, cost effective and well connected. So, you’ll need to have good communication skills with the ability to put your ideas across clearly to colleagues and customers - both in person and in writing, and you’ll need to demonstrate the ability to manage and prioritise your workload effectively in order to work on a number of projects simultaneously from inception to completion.
