Senior Professional Engineer - Development Control
Salary: Grades I-J (£36,372 - £46,608 per annum)
Location: Sutton Offices (Denmark Road)
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Full-time - part-time working arrangements will be considered

The London boroughs of Kingston and Sutton have come together to create an ambitious and forward-looking shared environment service, covering Environmental Regulatory Services and Highways & Transport functions. With a focus on delivering high quality frontline services, this innovative partnership plays its role in creating sustainable communities, with diverse transport networks and quality environments for all to enjoy. We offer a series of unique, fulfilling and exciting challenges in a dynamic working environment where innovation and creativity is needed just as much as the energy and desire to get things done.

This is a principal role within our Strategy and Commissioning team and you'll need to prove you have the relevant technical, contractual and legislative knowledge, including S106, S38 and S278 legal agreements, and reviews of Transport Assessments and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS) proposals, as well as a proven record of delivery in a local authority environment.

As you'll be responsible for managing at least one Development Control Engineer, you must also be able to support and empower staff whilst being effective in commissioning and performance management, ensuring planning applications are dealt with in a timely and professional manner, by managing resources by prioritising and allocating workload between team members.

This role will also involve communicating effectively with colleagues, including in particular the equivalent Senior Professional Engineer in Kingston, as well as the public, councillors and our partners. You will be expected to have good political management skills as occasional attendance at committee meetings will be required. You will also need to be able to effectively manage significant budgets and be a role model in taking an innovative and commercial outlook.

Finding the right people is critical to our future success. We’re looking for people who combine enthusiasm, drive and creativity with a successful track record of delivering high quality transport solutions in a local authority environment, whether working in the public sector or private practice.

For all roles your work with us will help ensure our highways and transport infrastructure is safe, fit for purpose, sustainable, cost effective and well connected. So, you’ll need to have good communication skills with the ability to put your ideas across clearly to colleagues and customers - both in person and in writing, and you’ll need to demonstrate the ability to manage and prioritise your workload effectively in order to work on a number of projects simultaneously from inception to completion.
