About us

This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful and innovative team of transport planners and modellers where you will play a key role in shaping the future development of Warwickshire’s transport infrastructure, which is vital to supporting sustainable economic growth and prosperity.

The Transport Planning Unit identifies, develops and delivers transport schemes to meet the objectives of the County Council’s Local Transport Plan and the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership’s Strategic Economic Plan. The County Council has an enviable record of securing funding and delivering major transport improvements across all modes of travel. In recent years the Group has led the delivery of a number of new rail stations as well as major new or improved road and cycle infrastructure. There is much more to come over the next few years, with the Group focused on delivering an ambitious pipeline of schemes. Transport modelling is central to the Group’s work and success and you will be joining an authority that is leading the way in utilising the latest modelling techniques.

About the role

The successful applicant can expect a varied and challenging workload. Your primary role will be to support senior officers in analysing and responding to transport assessments for major developments. You will also play a leading role in preparing the County Council’s strategic transport assessments which inform the spatial planning proposals of Warwickshire’s five District/Borough Councils. Through this work you will play a leading role in the identification, design and development of multi-modal solutions to transport challenges. You can expect to take the lead role within the Transport Planning Unit for developing and helping implement the transport strategy for a specific area of the County. There will also be an opportunity to project manage individual transport schemes from their inception through to delivery.

Key skills and experience required

To be successful in this role you will need to be motivated, creative and have good organisational skills. You will need excellent numeracy and analytical skills in order to evaluate and interpret transport data and modelling outputs. You will also use these skills to develop detailed understanding of transport problems and to identify, explore and develop solutions. You will need to be an advanced excel user, able to use spreadsheets to analyse and manipulate complex data. As you will be working with and alongside a wide range of internal and external colleagues, partners and clients, you will need to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and be used to providing technical information to varied audiences.

You should be educated to degree level (or equivalent). Previous experience in transport planning and specifically transport modelling is desirable, but not essential as on-the-job training will be given. The successful applicant will be appointed at Engineering Level 2 or 3 on a salary appropriate to their current levels of qualifications and experience.

This post is advertised on a full time basis, but applications from candidates seeking flexible or part-time working arrangements will be considered.
