Principal Transport Modeller – Department for Transport

Salary - £53,044 - £58,369

A recruitment and retention allowance of up to £4,000 may be available depending on skills and experience.

Do you have experience in collaboration projects using complex models to solve analytical problems? Have you previously worked in transport modelling and would you welcome the challenge of working in a principal transport modeller role that will support Local Authorities across the country in developing their transport models?

Could you apply your project management skills to identify modelling needs, shape a proportionate solution and drive it through to delivery, either yourself or by managing stakeholders?

If so, we’d love to hear from you.

JAQU is an innovative Defra-DfT cross departmental unit responsible for the delivery of the UK Plan for tackling roadside Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) concentrations, which sets out the actions Government is taking to deliver compliance with legal NO2 limits. JAQU’s work is a high priority area for Government, and is supported by £572m dedicated funding. This agenda is subject to significant levels of wider interest and scrutiny.

As a Grade 7 transport modeller, you will support Local Authorities across England in developing their transport models. These models are a key component of their local modelling and used to develop local plans for reducing NO2 concentrations to within limit values in the shortest possible time. You will also support and monitor the implementation of local plans including evaluating the impacts of policy interventions on travel and consequently air quality measures.

Moreover, you will be working on improving the transport models and evidence required for air quality modelling and policy development. You will be working alongside our other grade 7 transport modeller and report to the head of the evidence team.

Please refer to the attached role profile for the full duties and responsibilities of the position.

About You

Do you have extensive transport modelling experience combined with a positive, forward thinking mind-set with a willingness to collaborate and share best practice?

Have you got an analytical mindset with a flair for analysing and solving problems?

These exciting roles require people who can deliver progress on long term model development activities working alongside a wide range of stakeholders.

You will be a self-starter who can build rapport quickly to collaborate with your colleagues and stakeholders, and apply strong project management skills to the delivery of pragmatic, timely solutions.
