Transport for the North (TfN) is the UK’s first sub-national transport body and is at the vanguard of changing the way the region’s transport and infrastructure is planned and delivered. We’re busy creating new opportunities to cement the North’s footprint as a productive and nationally recognised economic driving force. Our organisation and partners speak with one voice to Government, driving transformational economic growth and creating a vibrant, prosperous North through better connectivity. We now need a new Strategy and Programme Director who will have direct oversight of some of the North’s most significant and high-profile infrastructure projects cutting across rail; road; freight; sea and air.

Seamlessly developing as a trusted external voice and ambassador for TfN you will take ownership of the delivery of the long-term, pan-Northern strategy – the Strategic Transport Plan – identifying compelling evidence and practice to support and prioritise our investment decisions. Your evidence-based approach will underpin your guiding influence in shaping our strategy, managing the programme framework and cascading corporate accountability to create high standards of excellence and minimise risk. Strong on industrialising strategy and developing effective governance you will be assured and adept at successfully communicating across our mix of diverse and complex stakeholder groups.

You will be able to demonstrate a compelling track record of delivering successful transport strategies linked to an infectious passion to support economic growth through change and taking others with you on our journey. Skilled at managing complex infrastructure projects you can interpret regional and national policy drivers to help prioritise our investment and strategic direction. You will possess exceptional communication skills able to help our stakeholders, partners and communities relate to and support the TfN vision.
