How you'll make a difference

As the Principal Project Manager you will make a difference as part of an expanding team, delivering transformational change to transport in South Gloucestershire and responsible for the day-to-day programme or project management, delivering active travel and public transport infrastructure projects in the district. You will oversee the management of transport infrastructure improvements and use of all necessary statutory processes required to deliver the schemes, in addition to contractual management with the supply chain and also lead engagement with representatives of local communities and key stakeholders.

Through the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement, South Gloucestershire has secured £100m in funding to decarbonise transport, promote a shift from cars to public transport, walking and cycling and drive growth and productivity through investment in infrastructure.

A hybrid working model is in place: the team have flexible working arrangements where you can work from home, with  occasional office based working as required, or can be office based, depending on your personal preference.

What will you be doing

•You will be required to effectively coordinate work packages and their inter-dependencies, together with the effective management of any risks and issues that may arise in order to deliver the projects.
•Collaboratively, you will be required to work closely with senior managers, key stakeholders, Department for Transport, National Highways, West of England (WoE) partners and Elected Members to agree priorities, roles and responsibilities and timescales for delivery.
•You will manage multi-discipline project delivery teams in South Gloucestershire along with staff and contractors from other partner organisations. Ensuring that Members, officers, partners and other stakeholders are briefed in a timely way on project progress.
•It will be your responsibility to effectively manage the project budget and programme, resolution of any risks and issues and making sure that Members, officers, partners and other stakeholders are briefed in a timely way regarding project progress.
•It is key that you provide expert and prompt advice to customers and partners on major issues, ensuring that effective customer relationships are established and maintained and that the Council is aware of implications, risks and benefits and that innovative solutions to complex technical issues have been developed.

What we need from you

•You will be an experienced Project or Programme Manager with a strong track record of successful project or programme delivery, to include substantial operational and management experience in a large complex organisation within a related specialist field.It
•It is essential that you hold a relevant professional qualification, degree or equivalent specialist qualification or equivalent experience.
•We require you to have significant management experience with the ability to develop team members, ensuring they are valued and understand their contribution to the Council, and able to communicate and negotiate with key stakeholders and partners.
•You will demonstrate detailed technical knowledge of project or programme management and its application in delivering highway schemes and also have understanding and experience of land acquisition processes, negotiation and have the ability to communicate this effectively at all levels.
•You must have a detailed knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice.
