Job introduction
Are you passionate about delivering change that has a long-lasting, positive impact on people’s lives and where they live? This is an exciting opportunity to join a service at the forefront of responding to the climate emergency by influencing the way people travel around Brighton & Hove.

We are one of the busiest unitary Highway Authorities and this role will be central to dealing with transport contracts; helping to deliver the aims of the ambitious Local Transport Plan, as well as assisting with identifying efficiencies.

About the role
Join us in Brighton and Hove – a unique, energetic, diverse centre for culture in the Southeast and an exciting place to develop your career.

The city places emphasis on high-quality, forward-thinking, sustainable development and travel solutions. As a council we are committed to creating a more liveable city in which residents and visitors feel healthier, safer, more socially connected and included.

As Brighton & Hove’s Transport Contract Manager you’ll have a wide-reaching impact, working to ensure all the divisions contracts have a positive effect on highway safety, traffic capacity and the environment, as well as meeting the diverse needs of our community and supporting our ambition to become carbon neutral by 2030. This is a rare opportunity to provide leadership in one of England’s busiest unitary Transport services within easy reach of London.

There is an ambitious, high-profile pipeline of projects coming forward in the city including Valley Gardens phase 3, active travel schemes and the wider Local Transport Pipeline. You will proactively manage a range of contracts working with the relevant service managers to ensure that the contracts deliver the outcomes that have been identified. You will work with the council’s procurement and legal teams to monitor and update the management team on how contracts are performing and when they are coming up for renewal. You will advise and support service managers on the processes and specification of contracts.

As the successful candidate you will possess strong leadership skills and have experience of managing contracts. You will have a track record of successfully developing and delivering change, and you’ll also have a strong customer ethos, a collaborative approach and excellent communication skills across a broad range of diverse groups.

As a manager you’ll work to the Head of Traffic Management, helping set the strategic direction for City Transport. You will be based in our modern, open plan offices in the city centre and benefit from flexible working, including homeworking. Joining an enthusiastic and supportive team, you’ll collaborate with colleagues from a range of fields.

In light of the Covid-19 pandemic special arrangements will be made with respect to interviews, ensuring a safe interview process and equality of access for all participants.
