Don’t just shape rail improvements. Make them happen.

Established by DFT, the Rail Group has the challenge of leading Britain’s railways into the future. We put our customers at the heart of what we do, all while increasing the output of the UK economy by as much as £10.2bn a year. Right now, our Network Services Directorate is working hard to improve the UK’s railways through a major investment programme. As a Rail Planning & Investment Manager, you’ll be integral to its success.

The UK has the most intensely used railway in Europe. Some parts are now running at close to 100% capacity. Network Rail has a mandate from government to spend more than £15 billion on improving the nation’s infrastructure. Overseeing this investment programme is our Network Services Directorate.

Clearly, this is a complex and hugely exciting challenge. It means you’ll be working in a demanding and constantly evolving environment. Here, you’ll develop and implement a rail enhancement strategy for a key geographic area. You’ll need to secure approvals for project development and liaise with all kinds of industry stakeholders. You’ll then take charge of a number of projects and ensure they’re delivered to deadlines and budgets.

This is a senior role where you’ll have contact with decision makers and ministers. You must therefore be a credible professional with relevant experience. Ideally, you’ll have worked in the Rail industry before. However, the ability to deal with high-level stakeholders is what we’re looking for. It’s important you can draft high quality written communications and work with multiple partners. The ability to develop business cases would be an advantage.

It’s a unique chance to help create a world-class railway that drives national growth. Join us, and find yourself at the heart of the rail industry.
