The Technical Assurance, Modelling and Economics (TAME) team provides this evidence base for TfN’s Strategic Transport Plan to connect the North’s towns and cities and create a more productive and inclusive economic area. TAME is a team of analysts, data scientists, transport modellers and economists who develop innovative data analytics and modelling tools and apply them in programmes and business cases to show how transport could enable this economic transformation.

Our tools include bespoke models to represent the North’s rail network, highway network, land use, freight (including international connections) and warehousing, electric vehicle charging, carbon assessment and economic impacts at strategic and local levels.

What we are looking for:

We have roles available across TAME, requiring a range of analytical skills. We are seeking candidates who:
•    Are passionate about the role of transport in the North to support local and regional aims
•    Have experience in developing effective working relationships with project teams and clients
•    Have excellent communication and writing skills
•    Have a high level of numeracy with strong problem-solving skills and innovative thinking
•    Have qualifications in an appropriate field such as transport planning, engineering, mathematics, computer science, economics, geography or similar

Role Overview:

We are looking to appoint an Assurance Officer to further strengthen our transport modelling and analysis team within TAME, establishing ourselves as a centre of excellence for modelling and analytics across The North and an innovator in the industry.

The Assurance Officer will provide key input into the technical delivery of analytical projects to meet customers’ needs and expectations across TfN, our local and national partners.

At our Assurance Officer level working in the TAME team you will be required to provide data, analytics and assurance services, as set out within your role profile below, to support the delivery of the Governments Integrated Rail Plan in accordance with TfN’s Grant Funding Agreement with the DfT.

About you:

You will have experience of transport related analytics and a practical understanding of transport modelling. This experience will include the ability to develop or operate transport models in a software package such as SATURN or CUBE and capability to build strategic analysis of transport interventions.

We are also interested in candidates with a more general transport business case or technical assurance background, and you should be able to demonstrate practical experience in contributing to business cases or independently assuring related to technical work. Experience or interest in applying those skillsets within the field of strategic transport planning and modelling would be beneficial.

Candidates will have the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of modelling and appraisal development and application, including base and forecast years and model calibration and validation.

The candidate will be expected to collaborate with a range of internal and external Partners, from the Department for Transport, Local Authority, Academia and subject matter experts to deliver outcomes.
