London Borough of Hackney

Senior Transport Planner (Zen)

PO3 - PO4 £38,007 - £42,651

Fixed Term/Secondment Contract for 2 years

Ref: HC01478

Hackney is London's most diverse, dynamic borough. Reaching from the Square Mile to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in technology, media, fashion and other creative industries. Hackney has more green spaces than any other inner London borough; some of the capital's finest schools; first class transport connections; excellent public services; and thriving arts, cultural and retail sectors. We seek people with ambition, creativity and commitment to ensure our economic growth provides benefits for everyone and creates opportunities to transform the lives of residents.

Based within the Neighbourhoods and Housing Directorate, our Streetscene Service was established to make Hackney cleaner, safer and more accessible for residents, businesses and visitors. We are now looking for a Senior Transport Planner to work with our partners and stakeholders to improve air quality in the borough by delivering the Zero Emissions Network (ZEN) programme and to contribute to other sustainable transport initiatives in the borough.

Hackney is the lead borough for ZEN, a cross-borough partnership with London Borough of Tower Hamlets and London Borough of Islington, and you will be responsible for overall project management of the ZEN programme and day to day management across the three boroughs. You will be responsible for overseeing the completion of the final two years of the project and designing the next phase of the project.

You will be an ambassador for the ZEN programme, recruiting businesses, and enabling them to take action to reduce any negative impact their business may have on air quality and other environmental issues. Providing technical support and guidance both to SMEs and our partners in Islington and Tower Hamlets you will ensure transport and heating related emissions are lowered, contributing to a cleaner, safer environment for the community while helping businesses cut their energy costs.

You will have demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, as you will be presenting evidence to local forums within a diverse community, negotiating with partners, and writing technical reports and other correspondence. You will have an understanding of marketing techniques and business to business engagement and the drive and creativity to initiate new partnerships.

You will have an eagerness to adapt to new technology, be a team player with a high level of initiative and able to prioritise, and be able to understand plans, drawings and other relevant technical information. You must be able to attend meetings outside normal working hours, understand “Best Value” criteria and possess an understanding of sustainable transport within an urban environment. Qualifications in Transportation Planning, Sustainable Business management, or project management and membership of, or eligibility for membership of, a relevant professional body would also be an asset. Candidates with demonstrable transferrable skills from other backgrounds are encouraged to apply if you have a willingness to learn the required technical knowledge.

At Hackney, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high profile organisation.

If you share our values and are ready to be part of our exciting journey please visit our website to apply.

There will be number of questions relating to the post. It is essential that you complete the application questions, responding to each using examples of your skills, knowledge and experience. You are not required to submit a supporting statement or CV.
