Swindon is a vibrant and dynamic town undergoing some big changes and with major plans for growth. The Borough is currently home to about 225,000 people and we are ranked in the top 10 most highly innovative areas in the UK. We are making major investments in our highway and transport infrastructure and in our local economy and need to continue to refine and develop our strategies for Swindon’s growth. In particular we are putting a focus on the impact that innovative transport planning has on maintaining our competitive and productive economy.

We are looking for a key individual to guide the development of our new transport strategy which is to meet the demands of our significant demographic and economic growth forecast for the next 10-15 years.

This post will play a key role in networking across a large range of external stakeholders to ensure that Swindon is plugged into the regional and national transport agenda and well placed to take forward innovation and funding opportunities. In addition, the post holder will work closely with our Swindon and Wiltshire LEP to oversee the management and of performance of Local Growth Fund transport projects totalling circa £90m.

This role will make a significant contribution to ensuring our transport system is fit for purpose today and future proofed for tomorrow. As such, the successful candidate will play a key role in determining our transport needs and in developing the feasibility of projects across our borough. This will include supporting sites such as the New Eastern Villages, a new community of 8,000 homes and capable of supporting 4,000 new jobs; the redevelopment of our town centre; and the impact from the Southwest’s first Snowdome due to be built at our North Star site.

Given the scale and significance of our schemes, you will play a key part in putting Swindon on the map by increasing the profile of our town. This in turn will present openings to develop your personal profile and network.

This is a great opportunity for a dynamic, forward-thinking individual with a ‘can do’ attitude to be part of Swindon’s continuing success story. At the same time you’ll be a team player maintaining critical relationships and working collaboratively with colleagues across the Council, partner organisations and developers.

In return we can offer a competitive salary, an agile working environment and a chance to be part of an ambitious Council which is at the forefront of public sector transformation.
