The transportation infrastructure sector is experiencing unprecedented levels of investment and Atkins is playing lead roles in projects to upgrade existing transport networks to deliver future demand including major new road schemes, high-speed rail as well as extensive public transport enhancements. Consultants from Atkins and their partners in the supply chain are working with government, local authorities, contractors and private developers to develop our future cities and infrastructure.

We are currently recruiting talented individuals to help deliver transport planning projects for our expanding client base.  With over 300 specialists in our Transport Planning business, we have the flexibility and resources to provide our clients with an extensive range of services including transport policy and strategy planning, traffic modelling, scheme appraisal, travel demand management, scheme design and development planning.

The Roles

We are recruiting transport modellers for our Transport Planning business and would like to discuss our exciting range of opportunities with prospective candidates.  We are looking for enthusiastic individuals across the range of experience and grades who wish to contribute to shaping and growing a high performing, dynamic team, working seamlessly across our national business.  We currently have a number of opportunities for candidates with experience in developing and utilising strategic or micro-simulation software packages.

The Candidates

We have opportunities nationwide for transport modellers with a range of skills and levels of experience.  Successful applicants will be flexible, self-motivated and will be expected to demonstrate a capability in the following:

• Strong analytical, numeracy and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication with strong report writing capability
• Ability to work under pressure and proven success in meeting deadlines
• Confident team worker with ability to work independently
• Experience of working to time and budget constraints.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate technical skills and competencies such as:

• Experience in using strategic modelling packages such as SATURN, EMME/2 and VISUM across the highway or other modes; or
• Demand modelling; or
• Experience in Micro-simulation modelling using software such as VISSIM and PARAMICS;
• Experience of the economic evaluation of transport schemes using COBA and/or TUBA would be desirable.

Successful candidates will have:

• Relevant planning, mathematical, engineering degree or similar
• A passion for transportation
• Ideally, membership of a relevant professional institute
