These are exciting times in Plymouth with a significant amount of new growth planned and following the adoption of our joint Local Plan, Plymouth City Council are seeking applications from enthusiastic and motivated individuals for the position of Transport Planning Officer with our small yet dynamic Transport Planning Team.

The Council’s Transport Planning Team are part of the Strategic Planning and Infrastructure Department and plays a key role in the delivery of all new planned growth providing housing and employment sites as well as the transport infrastructure required to support such growth. As a Transport Officer your primary role will be to assess and provide advice/recommendations on behalf of the Highway Authority on both pre-application enquiries and planning applications for major developments coming forward within the City.

The role will also include taking responsibility for the drafting, coordination and delivery of Highway Legal Agreements in order to secure new highway infrastructure through Sections 278 and 38 of the Highways Act 1980. You will assess the impact of development on the operation of the highway and transport network throughout the City ensuring that such growth can be delivered in a sustainable manner and where appropriate, suitable mitigation can be secured.

Experience of having previously worked within the field of Development Management (either within the private or public sectors) is essential. You will also need to demonstrate a full and detailed knowledge of transport and planning legislation as well as highly developed interpersonal and communication skills for negotiating with applicants/agents along with maintaining close working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in addition to elected members. An ability to solve problems and think outside of the box is also crucial in terms of finding solutions to allow the delivery of more complex sites we have coming forward.
