The Role:
Our Streetscene Service (based within our Neighbourhoods and Housing Directorate) ensures Hackney is clean, safe and accessible for residents, businesses and visitors. The Streetscene team is responsible for the design and maintenance of all highway networks, footways, bridges and lighting on all public roads, contributing to the wellbeing of our community and creating a sustainable public realm.

We are currently looking for an experienced Traffic Engineer to join our Design & Engineering team.  You will join a vibrant team and assist on projects within the local authority enabling you to advance your career, whilst giving you the freedom to achieve personal growth and development. We will provide you with the opportunities to enable you to succeed and support you to reach your potential.  You will be involved in designing a variety of traffic schemes such as waiting / loading restrictions and minor traffic management schemes.

You will be expected to carry out consultations, liaise with external and internal stakeholders, whilst working as part of a team and assisting Senior Traffic engineers on developing concepts, feasibility, preliminary, initial design, consultation, detailed design and ultimately implementation for multi modal or mode specific traffic engineering schemes, urban realm and public transport improvements.

You will have post qualification experience in Civil Engineering and/experience in Traffic Management and Road Safety Engineering schemes. You will also have excellent written and communication skills as well as good time and budgetary management skills.

On occasion you will be making presentations at public forums within a diverse community as well as communicating with colleagues and other stakeholders and so the ability to communicate effectively is imperative. The ability to plan, monitor and manage projects and programmes is essential and you will be ICT-savvy, ready to develop your own skills and those of others. You must be available to attend meetings outside normal working hours.
