Amid a flurry of ministerial changes in recent weeks, New Prime Minister Andy Burnham has decided to retain Heidi Alexander as Transport Secretary, while Lord Hendy, Simon Lightwood and Keir Mather all continue as Transport Ministers.
However, Transport Minister Lilian Greenwood – whose remit had included local transport, road danger reduction and pavement parking – has moved to the Department for Work and Pensions.
Her vacant ministerial post has been taken up by Justin Madders, MP for Ellesmere Port and Bromborough.
Madders was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Business and Trade between July 2024 and September 2025
He is a member of the Motor All-Party Parliamentary Group, which debates road transport and the policy priorities of the UK’s automotive industry.
