Will Norman (pictured) has been appointed London’s walking and cycling commissioner, taking up the full-time post next month. Norman has been global partnerships director at Nike since June 2015, working to increase levels of physical activity and sports participation round the world. Before joining Nike as a strategy consultant in 2013, he worked in research posts at the Young Foundation. He lives in London and regularly cycles in the capital. Norman will report to Val Shawcross, Sadiq Khan’s deputy mayor for transport.
Gordon Baker, chief executive of JMP Consultants, is leaving the company following the completion of its integration into SYSTRA this month (LTT 16 Dec 16). Baker is setting up a leadership coaching business to offer coaching and mentoring to senior executives. Sarah Muirhead is retiring from her role as managing director of SIAS to pursue other interests. SIAS was also fully integrated into SYSTRA this month.
David Boden has been appointed general manager of Sheffield-based bus operator TM Travel, a subsidiary of Wellglade Holdings. He was group manager, transportation services, at East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Fayyaz Qadir has joined consultant Atkins as a senior managing consultant from Transport for Greater Manchester where he was appraisal and strategic modelling manager.
Tim Harbot has joined Amey as director of technical excellence in its highways executive team. He was Highways England’s regional director, network delivery and development in the West Midlands.
HS2 Ltd chairman Sir David Higgins has been appointed chairman of Gatwick Airport, succeeding Roy McNulty, who will remain on the airport’s board as deputy chairman. Higgins will remain chairman of HS2 Ltd for the time being as the search goes on for a new chief executive to succeed Simon Kirby, who recently joined Rolls Royce (LTT 16 Sep 16), and a replacement chair.
David Frenz has been appointed operations director of Stagecoach East Scotland, joining from Scottish Citylink (a joint venture of Stagecoach and ComfortDelGro) where he was operations director. Frenz takes over from Mark Whitelocks who was recently promoted to managing director of Stagecoach North Scotland.
Cambridgeshire County Council leader Steve Count has been appointed chairman of the shadow Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority until May when a mayoral election will be held.
