Tom Flanagan has been appointed director of the Tay and Central Scotland transport partnership (Tactran) on a two-year contract. He is currently interim head of economic development at constituent authority Perth and Kinross Council and will take up the post in July, succeeding Eric Guthrie, who is retiring.
SYSTRA has announced changes to its UK and Ireland consultancy team. Alan James is now managing director of the UK & Ireland consultancy business, leading a team of nearly 400 transport planners, engineers, economists and modellers. He was operations director. Richard Hancox moves from commercial director to operations director. Business director appointments are: Chris Pownall for London & South (was director of rail consultancy); Steve Pickard for Midlands & North; and Kelvin Clarke for Scotland. Clarke replaces John Milligan who has retired. Ian Byrne remains business director for Ireland. Richard Stacey heads a new combined development and infrastructure sector, while Neill Birch leads rail and other public transport work. The transport planning, modelling & appraisal, and international sectors continue to be led by Annette Smith, John Allan and Nick Benbow respectively.
Andrew Sherrington (pictured) has been appointed managing director of Swansea-based bus operator First Cymru. He succeeds Justin Davies, who has become a full-time vicar (LTT 02 Feb). Sherrington is currently operations director at First West of England, covering the Bath, Weston-super-Mare, Wells and Westbury areas.
Martin Sutton, managing director of Stagecoach in Oxfordshire, is to retire in July, after 14 years in post and 46 years in the bus industry.
Richard Harris has been appointed director, Europe, for Ohmio Automotion Ltd, a manufacturer of self-driving shuttle vehicles. Ohmio is a spin-off from New Zealand’s HMI Group. Harris joined HMI last summer from Conduent, where he was director for communications, marketing, international transportation, and government.
Walking and cycling consultant Jason Torrance has been appointed clean air cities director for the UK100 Cities Network Ltd.
Leon Daniels, who retired as Transport for London’s managing director for surface transport in December, has set up a consultancy, Leon Daniels and Associates Ltd.
