Overview

You’ll ensure safe and sustainable travel to existing and expanding schools.
You have a key role in the sustainable growth of Buckinghamshire. You are the School Travel Plan Advisor for Bucks.

You will be part of developing an exciting new vision for Buckinghamshire, working closely with the Districts and the Local Enterprise Partnership to develop a strategy to make this vision a reality. About the role

BCC is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed person to deliver the county’s school travel programme. BCC school travel work has recently received national recognition and we are looking for an individual who can continue to drive this success forward, working with schools and local stakeholders, and using a range of behaviour change techniques, influence increases in levels of walking and cycling across the county. With a successful track record in delivering sustainable travel projects or similar, you will also have strong communication and influencing skills, an ability to work with a variety of stakeholders and able to prioritise your own workload and lead on (small scale) projects.

With over 50 schools with active travel plans and collecting record numbers of awards at the Modeshift Awards, Buckinghamshire has an impressive track record of effective school travel planning. Our systems have been developed to provide on-line support for schoo ls to develop travel plans with the Co-ordinator providing a key role in supporting the ongoing implementation of existing travel plans and helping new schools through the system.

2017 looks set to be a busy year, with the role of school travel planning in addressing congestion around schools it will be in the spotlight. Your role will be to help provide evidence to the Council’s Select Committee and implement agreed recommendations. We are also piloting two new initiatives – walking maps for schools and a School Run app and you will be responsible for reporting progress.

The Council is investing heavily in school expansion over the next few years, so there will be no let up in the amount of schools needing to develop and reviewing their travel plans.

We will be looking to hold interviews for this role on the 8th and 9th of June.

About you

You’ll have extensive experience of travel planning, and school travel planning in particular. Now you’re keen to use this experience in a place it will really count. You’ll have experience of developing, implementing and managing projects, preferably related to school travel planning. Educated to degree-standard in a relevant discipline, you’ll be the kind of organised, well-informed professional who will thrive on co-ordinating and managing a range of complex tasks. You’ll be just as good with people – influencing and building relationships with a variety of contacts. Experience of working with Councillors would be an advantage.
