Overview
We’re looking for a passionate project and people manager to lead our sustainable and active travel services. You will lead our important sustainable and active travel services keeping these delivering for our communities and developing them for improved outcomes for our residents. We’ve been a trailblazer for school travel planning and health walks. The team provides school travel planning advice, runs the countywide Simply Walk programme of healthy walks, operates over 50 school crossing patrol sites, manages cycle training and promotes sustainable and active travel.

In addition to managing the team you will also lead on providing sustainable transport input to the wider Transport Strategy service’s strategy and policy work as well as exploring how technology can improve the delivery of our transport services.

About the role
Travel planning, school travel plans, health walks, school crossing patrols, Bikeability and promotion form the core of our sustainable and active travel services. There are 4 members of staff responsible for their delivery with 54 School Crossing Patrollers also in place.

Buckinghamshire is a leading authority on school travel planning and health walks and we want to continue providing these services to meet the needs of our customers and secure their long term viability.

About you
You’ll be an experienced people and project manager, preferably with experience in managing frontline operations and with fantastic communication and people skills. You’ll need to be adept at developing operational policies and guidelines, as well as introducing changes to service delivery. You’ll need to be comfortable dealing with a wide range of stakeholders, including members. Experience of working with schools and volunteers would be an advantage.

You may also have experience developing strategy documents, promotion and marketing activities, bidding and partnership working.

It’s the sort of knowledge you might have gained while working in a previous role – or possibly through your degree (or equivalent). In addition to these studies (in a relevant technical subject), you’ll have developed polished communication skills, political awareness and a good grasp of the factors influencing public sector transport services - exactly what you need to create effective policies and strategies.
