Transport Planning Manager
In Watford, we understand the vital importance of sustainable transport to our town, to our environment and to our health and well-being.
We believe passionately in the need to provide attractive and sustainable transport alternatives for our residents, our businesses and our visitors. As our lead officer for Transport Planning matters across Watford, this is your chance to really make a huge difference as we aim to support economic growth, improve public health, and tackle the climate emergency. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work across all areas of Transport Planning from policy to strategy, to mobilisation and implementation.
Following our first round of public engagement on our sustainable transport strategy ‘Transforming Travel in Watford: The Strategy for 2021-2041’, we are now looking for a dynamic and creative Transport Planning Manager to lead on developing the strategy further and delivering real change on the ground. The strategy is being developed in partnership with our colleagues at Hertfordshire County Council and has strong political support from both authorities. With a new Local Plan due to be adopted next year there has never been a more exciting time to join our ambitious and highly motivated Planning and Development team. Joining Watford will allow you to make a real difference in shaping strategy and delivery.
As our sustainable transport champion, you will not only need to be analytical and evidence-based but also creative and persuasive, inspiring others to embrace walking, cycling and public transport as a preferred way to travel. With a proven track record of working successfully in partnership, you will be able to make convincing arguments and win hearts and minds. You will understand complex transport infrastructure projects, how to manage consultant teams and undertake effective public consultation. Experience of working successfully on funding bids would also be desirable.
We are an organisation that actively supports agile working, as we continue to build on the outstanding success of our working practices developed during the Covid-19 lockdown. Our Town Hall is based to the north of the Town Centre within easy walking distance to a wide range of shops, cafes and bars, as well as award winning open spaces such as Cassiobury Park. With local connections to the Metropolitan line, London Overground and other mainline services at Watford Junction, we are ideally located for convenient commuting from both London and across Hertfordshire.
If you would like to discuss this position please contact Ben Martin, Head of Planning and Development at Watford Borough Council.
We look forward to working with you.
