GMBOA was established in 1998 to represent the region’s bus operators that cover 90% of the bus network in Manchester. We are a trade association funded by these operators to deliver a consistent approach to bus messages and policies whose main aim is to keep the importance of bus patronage at the forefront of the City and the Region’s transport plans. We are now looking to recruit a Chief Executive to lead our business.


The Chief Executive is required to take overall responsibility for the business development and promotion of Greater Manchester Bus Operators Association (GMBOA), including representing the company in its relationship with member operators; Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA); Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) other local authorities and ticketing bodies, and to be seen externally as the senior contact within GMBOA.


• The Chief Executive is responsible through the Chair to the GMBOA Board.
• The Chief Executive will spend from 6 to 8 working days (taken to be 7.5 hours per working day, excluding breaks) per calendar month.


Applications are sought from suitably qualified individuals to fulfil this role on a self-employed basis. The annual budget is in the region of £45,000, subject to the experience of the candidate and the agreed number of days worked.
