We are looking for someone to join our team and be involved in creating a high quality public transport network that supports the Council's aspirations for promoting and delivering sustainable transport and encouraging modal shift.

You will need to take a long term approach to ensure that there are efficient public transport services and facilities to meet the public’s existing and future transport needs.

What is the role?
In conjunction with the Transport Planning Manager and Principal Public Transport Office, develop strategic public transport planning advice both internally and externally as required.

Taking a lead role in contributing to the development review and ongoing assessment of Public Transport.

Take a lead role in the development and operation of the Hard Interchange and Portsmouth Park & Ride.

Working closely with the Principal Public Transport Officer, prepare, develop and implement elements of the Local Transport Plan relating to public transport.

Represent Portsmouth City Council at external meetings.

Provide a technical client role in large scale and/or complex public transport schemes and proposals, including the South East Hampshire Rapid Transit network.

Respond to and deal with public transport and transport planning queries raised by members of the public, Councillors and other stakeholders.

Advance the provision of public transport within the city through the development of effective working relationships with operators, other local authorities and key stakeholders.

Manage the provision of contracted public transport services.

Be responsible for the coordination and provision of information relating to public transport services.

Liaise with public transport operators on all aspects of public transport infrastructure and information including Traveline.

Use well developed communication skills to liaise and work effectively with other internal teams, for example, with the Finance and Contracts team to ensure that the negotiation and procurement process works smoothly.

To develop and maintain regular liaison with partner firms in order to develop and take forward proposals for improving passenger transport provision, working in partnership with the bus and rail companies.

Where appropriate, help ensure the concessionary fare scheme operates in the best interests of all passengers, liaising with interested parties as necessary.

Project management of passenger transport infrastructure schemes and proposals.

Advise and guide Transport Planners, by providing technical expertise and experience in solving more complicated problems. Acts as a role model within the team and provides training for others.

You will need to have a relevant degree and/or relevant work experience of more than 3 years.
