Atkins’ Transportation division is a business of 3,000 talented professionals covering highway, rail and local transport sectors in the UK. We are organised according to Practices responsible for winning and delivering work in technical capability areas and Markets (focusing on developing strategic client relationships and winning work across local transport, strategic rail and strategic highways markets).
The Consultancy Practice comprises c500 staff delivering technical, planning and advisory consultancy services to a predominantly UK client base. This includes a range of specialist technical consultancy services focused on the management and analysis of transport and transport-related data that supports a wider offer in network operations, asset management and transport modelling and transport scheme development. Increasingly this entails the use of large, complex datasets from different sources requiring new approaches to data management, fusion of data from different sources, and the development and application of advanced analytical methods. This includes using contemporary data from Mobile Network Operators, GPS providers, vehicle logistics and operations, digital asset inventories, asset and transport sensors, ticket data, network operational data, video analytics and data about transport network users characteristics and preferences. It will also entail, increasingly, looking at developing a real-time data analysis capabilities and the development of predictive analytics tools.
Sitting within our transport modelling and data analytics team, the aim of the role is to inject data science discipline knowledge, perspective and experience into our existing team which has developed its skills and capabilities from a predominantly transport-focused perspective.
This role reports directly to the Practice Director for the Modelling and Data Analytics sub-practice within the overall Consultancy Practice, and will be part of the sub-practices senior team.
The role is expected to be based in either of our London, Epsom, Aldershot or Birmingham offices.
