Job Type: Permanent, Full-time, 37 hours per week

Working in our Transport, Environment & Business Support Service, the successful candidate will be a leader in the development of safe transport networks in Portsmouth. Working will colleagues and partners to lead the provision of technical advice on all proposed and planned works, schemes, special events and developments in the city, to lessen the impact upon the road network before, during and after implementation.

This is an exciting opportunity to be the council's senior manager in the area of highways network management and development management. The post holder will need vision to consider new and innovative ideas which can promote positive change for the long term benefit of the people of Portsmouth.

Applicants should:

• Be qualified with a relevant degree/BTEC Higher or demonstrate significant experience in development management or highways engineering
• Be a Chartered/Incorporated Engineer, or have similar professional affiliation
• Have significant experience in project management, special event management and scheme implementation
• Have significant experience in the investigation and design of traffic engineering measures
• Have sound knowledge of current traffic legislation and best practice
• Have excellent communication skills and be able to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders
• Be an effective team leader
