The Department for Transport’s Traffic Surveys team are currently recruiting for an Automatic Traffic Data Collection Engineer to become the vital link between the Department of Transport (DfT) London based statisticians and the contractors employed to maintain, develop and enhance capability of the Department’s national automatic traffic counter network.

Role Responsibilities will include:

Day to day field and operational management of DFT’s network of 300 in-road Automatic Traffic Counters (ATC), working closely with the network maintenance contractors to ensure the network delivers DfT’s requirements.

Working closely with DfT statisticians to maintain high quality data from the network, and providing them with expert technical advice on the ATC network.

Developing the existing network to maximise its performance and actively promoting ideas for more effective ways of counting and classifying vehicle traffic.

Line management of 1 internal direct report 


About you
You will be an experienced engineer who can get the best out of existing systems and find new ways of doing things. You will be extremely well organised to manage your own time and that of others to handle numerous work streams at one time. You enjoy working as part of a team and have the ability to see the bigger picture, so that the work you do is in line with the needs of the business.

Location:
This role will be based in Great Minster House, London, but you will be required to undertake extensive travel throughout the UK to visit other sites on weekly basis which will sometimes require overnight stays. Given the nature of the work, there is potentially some flexibility around time spent at Great Minster House. 

Successful candidates based outside of London will attract a Grade SEO £37,428 as will those who are not based in London for at least 3 days a week.
