£30,746 - £33,136
Ref: 2990

We have an exciting opportunity in the Road Safety and Local Area Engineering team within the Local and Sustainable Transport Service, supporting the delivery of cycling and walking initiatives across the City.

The team are based in Temple Street and work closely with Councillors, local residents and businesses and other teams across the Council. We deliver road safety, cycling, walking, parking and local traffic schemes aimed at improving the lives of those that live, work and visit the City. You will also have the chance to work with other Councils and voluntary organisations in the West of England and nationally to continue to keep Bristol at the forefront of cycling in particular and active travel in general.

This role within the team involves being the focal point for developing cycling and pedestrian design standards, ensuring they are kept up to date and applied by all transport schemes and directly implementing schemes to improve pedestrian and cycling facilities across the City. It will involve direct liaison with Councillors, officers and local stakeholders to advise on how the networks can be improved drawing on good practice nationally, not least by developing and managing the LCWIP plan when agreed. It also involves managing projects and programmes to deliver these improvements by working alongside other organisations, leading the design and construction of changes to the highway directly, or supervising consultants and contractors.

You will be required to demonstrate an appreciation of the issues that impact on safety and movement within a City environment and experience in designing and delivering pedestrian and cycling solutions to these. You would need to demonstrate excellent communication and project management skills, preferably in a transport field. A good understanding health and safety is also important.

You will join an experienced team, who will help you develop your skills and career. The post is on the Transport Service Career Progression Scheme, giving you the potential ability to progress through the pay grades.
