Would you like to be a part of The London Borough of Hounslow, whose diverse workforce are committed to making a positive difference for our residents and visitors by ensuring the quality of our services are maintained to a high standard?

Hounslow Council is an outstanding council serving an outstanding borough. With brilliant, visionary leadership, a dynamic Cabinet and a can-do culture, we’ve built strong partnerships across the borough which have transformed how we serve one of London’s most diverse boroughs. Hounslow is the world in one place, full of potential, but a borough hit hard -socially and economically -by Covid-19. We have stepped up for our residents and businesses like never before.

About The Role
If you’re an ambitious graduate, this role is an opportunity to help deliver engineering and transportation projects ranging from minor improvements to £multi-million infrastructure projects. Think charging points for electric cars. More bike lanes. A better walking network. Improved bus infrastructure. As well as giving you huge scope to learn and develop a host of skills, the role will enable you to make a tangible difference to our diverse communities by making our transport network healthy, clean, green, safe and accessible. You’ll also be part of a supportive team with clear values centred around curiosity, making things happen, seeing the bigger picture, collaborating and achieving positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
You’ll assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of various transport projects in a role that’s an excellent training ground for a graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in the field of traffic and transport. Working as part of multidisciplinary project teams, you’ll collaborate with colleagues across the directorate to ensure our services are fully integrated and always put our communities first. Your role will also involve coming up with innovative ways to tackle a range of local issues.

Your Skills:
You’ll need the ability to independently manage projects, and to develop a good working understanding of practical risk, financial procedures and administration, and performance management techniques.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are also essential as you’ll need to summarise complex proposals using non-technical language, draft clear, concise and accurate reports, and present information clearly and persuasively.

We’ll also want to see the enthusiasm, ambition and skills to deliver a green recovery, help tackle the Climate Emergency, protect the environment and enable us to deliver on our Transport Strategy. You’re someone who can influence the delivery of the innovative projects that are part of the programme.

Good ICT skills, preferably experience of using CAD and Microsoft Applications, such as Outlook, Excel and Word. GIS skills are desirable.

Professional Qualifications
• No essential qualifications are required for this role if all essential employee specification provisions are met.
• Undergraduate level Transport Planning or Engineering qualification/ or other sector specific qualification desirable but not essential.

We value diversity in its broadest sense. We're committed to creating an inclusive culture where everyone is able to be themselves, give of their best and reach their full potential. We believe that a diverse workforce helps us to better understand our communities and deliver the best services for our residents. We want to receive applications from all regardless of age, gender identity, disability, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, religion or belief, race or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, transgender status or social economic background. We want to harness the mix and ensure that everybody can apply and be part of our recruitment processes. We will therefore make reasonable adjustments to accommodate our candidates.

This post is considered by the authority to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
