This is an exciting opportunity to improve road safety and create healthy streets in a busy and dynamic central London borough. You should understand the challenges in managing the competing demands of different road user groups on our road network, and have experience of, and new ideas for, meeting such challenges. We have a full work programme of improvements to our streets to deliver, and no shortage of requests for more from our residents.

We need your technical knowledge, including experience of traffic signal design and modelling, but your personal skills will be just as important. We want someone who is able to provide solutions to the range of problems that come with a busy road network, and who is happy to explain these solutions to our Councillors, residents and businesses. You will be working within the Transport Policy team that is at the forefront of implementing the Mayor of London’s Transport Strategy in the specific context of Kensington and Chelsea. You will be professional, empathetic and approachable, and understand residents who feel strongly and passionately about road safety, their streets, the environment and streetscape. You will therefore need to be an excellent communicator with good problem solving skills.

You will need to keep many plates spinning at once, but never lose sight of the big picture - delivering our third Local Implementation Plan, including reducing casualties on our roads, improving air quality and providing better conditions for all road users, especially pedestrians, cyclists and bus passengers.

You will also need to be committed to the Council’s new values of:
• Putting Communities First
• Respect
• Integrity
• Working Together

We offer excellent staff benefits, including travel allowances and a Local Government Pension scheme.
