Salary: £24,964 - £29,323 p.a.

Hours: 36.66 per week

Based: Room 310, Level 3, Civic Centre, West Street, Oldham, OL1 1UH

Role overview

The Transport and Highways Policy Team is seeking a Transport Policy Officer to be responsible for the development and implementation of sustainable transport initiatives, including the Council’s staff travel plan, and for providing an effective travel planning service. The role involves working in partnership with other organisations to encourage the take up of travel plans, including through the development control process.

Key responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the development and implementation of sustainable transport initiatives in line with national, regional and sub regional transport policy, both internally within the Council and externally within other organisations.

  • To work in partnership to develop and influence the uptake of travel plans and Travel Choices initiatives within other organisations.

  • To ensure that the Council provides an effective travel planning service whereby we request and review travel plans for new developments in line with the Council’s Planning Policies, and undertake travel planning work in support of key developments.

  • To assist in the preparation of key policy documents such as the Greater Manchester Local Transport Plan.

Key Requirements

To succeed in this role you will need as a minimum:

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent

  • Experience of developing and delivering sustainable travel and Travel Choices initiatives

  • Experience of partnership working and an ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear and informative manner for a variety of audiences
