Street Works Liaison & Environmental Officer

Walbrook Wharf, Upper Thames Street

Salary: £37,110 – £42,100 pa inclusive depending on experience/performance

The City of London is one of the world’s most exciting locations. Home to a leading economy, world-famous landmarks and structures, a thriving tourism industry and commercial opportunities that are unsurpassed, it lives up to its reputation as being a city that never sleeps – particularly as our road transport network offers easy access in and out of the City at all times of the day and night. But in order to keep this vibrant hub moving – and in order to maintain a pleasant environment for everyone – the City of London Corporation must work collaboratively with a broad cross-section of stakeholders to ensure problems are dealt with swiftly and preventative measures are put in place.

In a pioneering scheme, we are therefore working collaboratively with TFL and the London Borough of Camden to trial a new approach to overseeing out of hours works on the Transport for London Road Network. This busy network can cause disruption to local residents and businesses during periods of road works, so you will liaise between all involved parties, including Environmental Health and Highways teams, Transport for London, residents, works promoters and network teams. Finding solutions to conflicts such as noise, congestion and environmental impacts, you will inspect street works and conduct site inspections, ensuring they are meeting requirements and enforcing action when appropriate. Negotiating with those who are undertaking urgent noisy works, you will suggest ways to minimise the impact on neighbours, and you will provide expert advice to promoters and contractors on their legislative requirements across a variety of projects.

You will have experience in planning or managing projects in relation to highways or streetworks, or environmental health knowledge related to highways or construction environments. With a degree-level qualification, you will also be a member of a professional body and will have experience of the equipment and monitoring procedures used to assess environmental impacts. Committed to remaining on top of current legislation and proposed legislative changes, your excellent interpersonal skills will prove crucial when dealing with members of the public and responding to them in writing. Able to prepare reports in which you will feed back on the success of this scheme, you will give presentations. You will therefore have excellent IT skills including Excel and PowerPoint, and will be able to analyse numerical data.

We are passionate about nurturing talent and helping our staff achieve their ambitions, so if you’re ready to define your career with a dynamic challenge, then get in touch today.
