You’ll help improve vehicle and pedestrian movement around an iconic city.

Join the City of London as a Design Engineer and you could soon be playing a big part in shaping the way public transport users, car drivers, cyclists and pedestrians travel around the city in the future.

These are exciting times for our Built Environment – City Transportation team. Already leading the way in delivering transformational transport schemes in the city, we have enjoyed considerable growth over the past 12 months and now have an array of new transport projects to deliver. So, if you want to further your career as part of a dynamic team of professionals that are tackling complex transport challenges head on, read on.

Your main challenge will be to manage and successfully deliver projects within our Traffic Management, Road Danger and Cycling Programmes in relation to the permanent vehicle and pedestrian movement function within the City of London. You’ll be our Technical Representative, making sure our streets are fit for purpose and we meet our statutory obligations in relation to these streets and the delivery of City projects. Negotiating with external agencies such as TfL and developers to secure funding and change will be important too. And when it comes to influencing plans and developments for your allocated projects and making sure the City’s best interests are maintained, again, it’s you we will turn to.

Well-organised, yet open to new ways of working, you have lots of drive and determination, comprehensive knowledge of what constitutes good project management and a natural ability to respond to customers’ needs. You also have a degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering/other related subject or have significant experience of working at a similar level. An in-depth understanding of the Highways Act 1980, Road Traffic Regulations 1984, Traffic Management Act 2004 and the Transport Act 1990 as it relates to permanent highway and traffic management is important too, as are excellent analytical and problem solving skills. A confident and effective communicator who is used to dealing with a variety of situations and provide advice, clarity and influence to a variety of audiences, you are also comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
