We are looking to recruit an experienced, knowledgeable and competent Traffic Signals Team Leader, to join our team and ensure the coordination of all aspects of Urban Traffic Control type systems, traffic signal and pedestrian facilities maintenance across the county. The design of signal installations and contract management is an essential part of the role.

The traffic signal team is part of the Strategic Asset Management team within the Highways Service and it works closely with the local traffic teams to identify defects, make improvements to the existing installations and install new infrastructure. We are proud of our in house contracting unit providing first class highway maintenance, improvement projects and the winter maintenance services.

The Role
Your responsibility as Traffic signals team leader will be to oversee a small team, managing over 200 sets of signals throughout Cumbria, including signalised junctions, puffin and toucan crossings. The role involves working with external contractors to ensure all defects are responded to in a timely manner, and that regular maintenance and inspections are carried out efficiently. As the team leader, you will liaise with highway colleagues throughout Cumbria and the traffic manager to work towards reducing congestion and improving capacity through the signalised junctions. A reduction in journey times on the network and improvements to air quality are also objectives of the role, as well as the delivery and organisation of projects within timescales and budgets.

Who we are looking for:
We are looking for someone experienced, methodical and solution-focused, who can contribute to effective team working. Exceptional communication skills are essential, as the role will require liaison with varied members of the public, councillors and colleagues, as it will be first point of contact for traffic signal issues, suggestions for improvements and requests for new installations. A relevant degree or NVQ Level 5 in appropriate discipline or equivalent is required, as is significant experience in this professional field and the ability to travel extensively throughout the county.
