Full time, permanent
Do you have an Engineering or Transportation related degree, membership of an appropriate transport institution and good knowledge of the application of current government policies, standards and legislation in the traffic/transportation field?
Then make the move to Bracknell Forest Council.
Right now, our Highways and Transport division is looking for a Senior Development Management Engineer to join them and play a key role within the Development and Adoptions team. Your main challenge will be to determine the traffic and transport implications and requirements of developments proposed for implementation in, or affecting, the borough. However, we'll also rely on you to help secure the necessary improvements through effective development management processes.
Providing guidance and support regarding the safe and satisfactory delivery of improvements to existing highways and new infrastructure carried out by developers under agreement will be important too. And, when it comes to negotiating with developers, briefing elected members or helping to progress key policy changes as they emerge, again, we'll count on you to deliver.
To succeed, you’ll need extensive knowledge of current highway design standards and practices, ideally gained working within development control/management. Local Government committee experience would also be useful. Confident in your ability to apply current government policies, standards and legislation in the traffic/transportation field, you’re also adept at analysing information and producing coherent reports and recommendations on complex subject matters.
Good presentation skills are vital too, as are the interpersonal skills it takes to work as part of a team and liaise with a wide range of professionals. Great at prioritising, delegating and managing others, you're creative, innovative, comfortable working to deadlines and remain calm and polite when under pressure.
As an area, Bracknell Forest has much to offer. It’s a thriving Borough that is currently benefitting from development growth and a regenerated town centre bringing an abundance of new retail outlets, restaurants, cafes and leisure opportunities. Though much of its centre is modern, Bracknell has a strong historic background. Once part of the Windsor Great Forest, it still nestles in woodlands; one fifth of the borough is forest, with another fifth protected for its high wildlife value including ten sites of specific scientific interest.
Located in the heart of the Thames Valley and close to Reading, the town of Bracknell has excellent road and rail links to all areas of the UK, with the council office situated within two minutes’ walk of the station. There is also nearby parking, making it extremely accessible.
Bracknell Forest Council prides itself on being an excellent employer. We offer a fantastic range of benefits including flexible and agile working arrangements, as well as learning and development opportunities, which will offer the chance to develop and progress your career.
