Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (BCP Council) has recently formed as one of the country’s newest and largest unitary authorities and you will have the opportunity to help shape the future of Engineering Services within the authority. We have just been awarded £79M for Transforming the way our residents and visitors travel and are expecting further funding for additional Active Travel Measures, as well as ongoing funding through the Local Transport Plan Programme.

As an experienced Highway Design Engineer, you’ll see schemes progress from early design to construction. You’ll feel inspired to challenge yourself, as well as your colleagues. You will work on a variety of projects across the conurbation from major highways improvements through to a diverse range of small and medium highways and structural design projects. We would love to hear from Engineers who have developed their skills over several years since graduating and have experience of working within constrained urban highway environments and can demonstrate an experience of delivering high quality sustainable travel improvements.
As an experienced and professionally qualified Street Lighting Engineer, you will be responsible for effectively and efficiently maintaining the Council’s stock of over 38,000 street lights and illuminated to improve highway safety, reduce fear of crime and minimise energy use and to develop and implement policies in line with Street Lighting best practice. As a Street Lighting Technician you will assist in the design, supervision and monitoring of street lighting operations working closely with the Street Lighting Engineer and the Council’s Maintenance contractor.
As an experienced and professionally qualified Highway Planner/Programme Manager, you will be responsible for managing the council’s Major Capital (LTP) Programme, to provide quality place shaping designs, in accord with industry and government requirements, to meet the Council’s objectives. You will lead on programmes that deliver sustainable active travel improvements, through quality design, to create a long-lasting step change in low carbon travel. You will be determining and prioritising the allocation of Capital funding and establishing an appropriate programme of schemes.
