Fixed Term/Secondment Contract (12 months)

We are looking for a Transport Planner to work on a wide range of exciting projects and join our industry leading Sustainable Transport and Engagement team. This role offers an opportunity to work on a wide range of projects with the possibility of a contract extension at the end of the initial 12 months.

Our Sustainable Transport and Engagement Team maintains a successful track record of delivering innovative and award winning sustainable transport events and projects such as the ‘London Walking and Cycling Conference’ and ‘Bike Around the Borough’ (Hackney’s flagship cycling event for schools) as well as working on Hackney’s trailblazing School Streets programme. The team is also responsible for delivering smarter travel and road safety programmes as well as awareness campaigns to influence behaviour change towards safer and more sustainable forms of travel such as walking and cycling.

Working alongside the Senior and Principal Transport Planners, your work will be varied and will include planning and facilitating events of all sizes, planning and delivering sustainable travel awareness campaigns, managing behaviour change projects, planning and delivering green infrastructure projects, giving presentations, assisting in travel plan monitoring, delivering the actions of the Council travel plan serving as a travel plan coordinator and assist with any other work of the wider team as required.

What we are looking for is experience with and knowledge of: transport planning and the transport planning industry, event management, project management, travel behaviour change theories, the different measures aimed at changing travel behaviours, marketing, travel plans and a good understanding of environmental and sustainability policy and legislation.

The ideal candidate will also have skills in or abilities to: communicate effectively with different audiences through different mediums, liaise with other internal directorates and external partner agencies to deliver joint work and to communicate project objectives, work under pressure and deliver to deadlines on high profile projects, think creatively about projects and events to add value to their delivery.

You will also need to understand plans and drawings and other relevant technical information related to Sustainable Transport projects, have proficient IT skills, have excellent report writing skills required for the preparation of reports and consultation documentation, be willing to attend meetings or undertake work outside normal working hours e.g., evening meetings.
