As a Principal Transport Planner, you’ll help shape our approach to ensure our transport policies and strategies boost East Sussex’s economic, environmental and community progress – connecting families, friends and visitors with businesses and places across our county.
The role
Strategically, you’ll support the development of our next Local Transport Plan and help shape our transport policies with an increased emphasis on net zero carbon emissions, as well as planning for people and places.
Operationally, you will need to work closely with our Local Transport Schemes workstream and Major Projects & Growth team on turning policy into practice and making the case for transport investment in East Sussex. We’ll also consider you a subject matter expert and a pivotal figure in relationships with Transport for the South East, National Highways, Network Rail and other strategic transport service providers.
The team
You’ll be a key figure within our creative and collaborative Infrastructure Planning and Place function. As well as managing the development and delivery of our Transport Plan and working with our Borough and District Councils on their Local Plans; this is a team that has secured over £20m to invest in walking and cycling schemes, is running a multi-million pound engagement programme of walking and cycling initiatives, and is working with our Major Projects & Growth team to build the case for Government investment in our major roads and railways that connect East Sussex.
About you
With a relevant degree (or equivalent), we’re looking for a natural communicator who enjoys collaborating with stakeholders and influencing partners to make the case for transport improvements in East Sussex. From a related background or someone who wants to apply their skills and experience in a new career, you’ll be a highly organised individual with the technical skills and personal drive to take forward a wide range of transport policy projects and strategies.
