The Combined Authority is looking to recruit someone who wants to make a huge difference to the ability of all people of West Yorkshire to get around – ensuring we have the rail network we need, developing West Yorkshire mass transit, improving and reforming the bus network, knitting an active travel network into our places, encouraging the use of sustainable modes of transport, overseeing our capital programmes, developing a clear strategy for the future, and ensuring that everyone benefits through close attention to equality, diversity and inclusion. We are looking for an exceptional and motivated leader to take our Combined Authority partnership into the future.

As the biggest contributor to the UK economy in the Northern Powerhouse, with a proud cultural and sporting heritage, our region is a modern and inspiring place in which to live, work and invest.

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority brings together the local authorities of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield with the Local Enterprise Partnership. The Authority develops and delivers policies, programmes and services which directly benefit the 2.3 million people who call West Yorkshire home.

The Authority is chaired by the England’s first female elected Mayor, Tracy Brabin. The Mayor is a strong champion for the region, making sure that the voice of the people of West Yorkshire is heard in Westminster.

The Authority is now taking the next step to deepen its partnership through a devolution deal which will unlock significant long-term funding and, critically, give our region greater freedom to decide how best to meet local needs and create new opportunity. A new organisational structure is being implemented to deliver this.

The role of Executive Director Transport reports to the Authority’s Chief Executive and provides visible leadership for transport in the region, securing investment and integrating functions which drive the development, delivery and safe operation of a sustainable, effective and efficient transport system for the people of West Yorkshire.

This will require an exceptional leader with extensive knowledge and experience in the transport sector and the ability to provide challenge and rigour to ensure West Yorkshire has a best in class, innovative transport system. Inclusion is central to the Mayor’s ambitions for the region, so the Executive Director will champion equality and diversity in every aspect of the role.
