Our client is currently seeking a Principal Transport Planner / Modeller to fill a key position in their Scottish transport planning business. Based in either Edinburgh or Glasgow, the position will focus on strategic modelling and appraisal across Scotland, although project work further afield in other parts of the UK and Ireland, and overseas internationally, may also be involved.

Candidates will be qualified with a relevant degree, and have gained solid, broad experience in transport planning, and specifically in strategic modelling. In essence, our client requires an individual with an in-depth appreciation of strategic transportation modelling and appraisal, and a good knowledge of the wider transport planning issues, with a proven ability to lead small project teams.

Applicants should have experience in most of the following :-

a)  Experience in strategic transport modelling and forecasting of travel demand and supply;

b)  Experience in quantified and monetised elements of transport appraisal;

c)  Experience in using one or more relevant strategic transport planning software packages and programming/scripting languages e.g. SATURN, CUBE, VISUM, Python, VB etc;

d)  Knowledge and experience in data analysis using one or more data analysis packages e.g. Excel, Access, SPSS, R etc. A knowledge of VBA would be advantageous;

e)  Experience in appraisal and evaluation of transport proposals to current Transport Scotland or DfT standards;

f)  Good knowledge and familiarity with key guidance documents, such as WebTAG and STAG;

g)  Self-motivation and capability to undertake specific tasks with minimum supervision;

h)  Strong presentation skills;

i)  Good technical writing capability, and the ability to produce quality client reports;

j)  The ability to manage larger tasks or small/medium sized projects, including client contact and liaison;

k) Good appreciation of project risk issues and application of these to day-to-day tasks; and

l)  Knowledge of project budgetary issues and the capability to deliver work to time and budget.

The position offers excellent potential for a candidate looking to advance their career with a forward looking consultant, able to offer a wide range of interesting and challenging projects.

The salary is negotiable, but expected to be somewhere in the £44-54,000 p.a. region, plus an excellent range of flexible benefits.
