£41,587 - £45,746 + excellent benefits

The Department for Transport (DfT) is entrusted with keeping the country moving. From road safety to passenger security, trains to buses, walking routes to aviation, we work collaboratively to directly impact the wellbeing of the nation. With our work affecting every member of the public, we need to use credible forecasts to inform our decisions, ensuring our transport network remains fit for purpose into the future. And that is where the Transport Appraisal & Strategic Modelling (TASM) team comes in – a team with fantastic career opportunities for you to use your modelling capabilities to inform important national decisions as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

With two roles available, you can be sure of a stimulating and varied workload. The two roles are: to enhance our Transport Analysis Guidance, WebTAG, using the latest evidence and research; and to develop the National Transport Model to test new and innovative transport policies. Our projects involve anything from predicting trends to simulating the effects of policy intervention, with huge scope to be involved in shaping transport investment and policies over the coming years. Developing modelling techniques and providing advice on modelling issues, your competent ability to guide research projects will be hugely beneficial as we work together to provide a clear evidence base for future investment.

Able to work in a fast-paced environment, you will have experience of transport modelling and forecasting, supported by a degree with a significant mathematical or numerical element. Ideally you will have some knowledge of transport policies and related appraisal techniques such as WebTAG guidance and TEMPRO forecast data. With great abilities to communicate and collaborate capabilities and the ability to translate complex data into understandable advice, it would also be desirable if you have knowledge of computer programming.

With bespoke training and development opportunities available, we will help you continue to flourish.  And with flexible working supported, you’ll enjoy a great work/life balance too.
