London’s transport system has evolved over centuries to become one of the most complex in the world. Here at TfL, we manage the capital’s Red Routes – home to 6,300 sets of traffic lights and hundreds of infrastructure projects. As a Transport Modeller, your work will be vital to our city. Aside from making everyday life smoother on a grand scale; if you want technical challenges that demand creative solutions, this is for you.
You’ll learn skills that will elevate your future potential
It’ll be your job to optimise those signal schemes: creating models, simulations and designs. As one of our technical experts, you’ll have the chance to contribute to our best practice policy, and work with the team in developing custom tools and macros for our wide range of modelling software packages.
You’ll be supported every step of the way
With a large team of over 20 around you, you can expect lots of support. However, as well as a relevant HNC (or equivalent) they will want you to bring solid experience of traffic modelling, scheme design or traffic engineering. You’ll also understand the nuance of Urban Traffic Control and techniques like SCOOT, Bus Priority and VA. And you’ll be a confident communicator too – able to write concise reports, and present to senior figures.
