Kent County Council

Kent County Council

Director Highways, Transportation & Waste
Kent
Salary - up to £112,000

Can you be a positive force for change? Do you understand what it means to be a ‘custodian of place’? And are customers central to your thought processes? If the answers are yes and you thrive on the demands from a growing population of 1.54m, 5000 miles of highway, 2200 bridges and structures, 125,000 street lights and 18 Household Waste Recycling Centres then KCC may be the next step in your career.

You will manage a budget of £135m and work to make our services ever more efficient and cost effective. You will also manage the political interface with 81 very interested members and you will lead and motivate c.650 staff who are based throughout the County.

Your responsibilities will range from planning and delivering new highway schemes to manage growth; to ensuring our highways are safe and well managed against a reducing resource base, through to delivering the concessionary fares scheme and the unique Young Persons Travel pass and continuing our excellent record in disposing of 730,000 tonnes of waste per annum.

You will have an impressive track record of working effectively with partners, of commissioning and contract management and motivating a diverse group of skilled staff.
