Network Rail runs, maintains and develops Britain's rail tracks, signalling, bridges, tunnels, level crossings and many key stations, with our rail network being the fastest growing and safest in Europe.

As part of the Station Capacity Team, you will help to analyse, model and advise on current station upgrades throughout the network. The role is not limited to the current infrastructure. Long term planning for future railway stations on new infrastructure is happening throughout the country. The role includes quantitative and qualitative work, to analyse and recommend what changes need to be implemented to a station to make it as safe and user friendly as possible.

Sitting within the larger strategic planning branch of the company there will be opportunity to be part of multi-disciplinary projects, and be in contact with and learn from all parts of the business.

Your role will be leading on small to medium sized projects to provide the business with analysis that allows decisions to be made on which railway projects take priority. This will largely be in the supporting of business cases for funding of congestion relief schemes throughout the network. It will also include defining the requirements for station sizing of new station schemes. You would also be part of a team that provides analysis for crowd management, data analysis and long term planning of stations.

Typical tasks of a Senior Station Capacity Specialist:
• Set up and commissioning of passenger surveys.
• Analyse or supervising the analysis of data to extract outputs required.
• Creation, development, review and audit of a pedestrian simulation model.
• Write up or review and audit study reports based on findings from data analysis and observations.
• Write proposals for pieces of work to our internal customers.
• Provide advice to our Route and Planning customers on station capacity related topics.
• Present findings to project stakeholders and attend relevant meetings.
• Work closely with project team members to deliver projects to agreed timescales and budgets.

Essential requirements:
• You have experience in pedestrian modelling and station capacity
• You have a degree in Transport Planning, or any other analytical degree, including Engineering, Geography and Mathematics. Alternatively other relevant experience will be considered.
• You are able to analyse data and have an eye for attention to detail
• VBA and advanced spreadsheet skills
• You have strong problem solving skills
• You can evidence having delivered and managed small to medium sized projects.
• You are eligible to work in the UK
• You have an excellent standard of written and spoken English

Preferred requirements:
• Experience in Sketch-Up, AutoCAD, ArcGIS
• Awareness and knowledge of transport modelling theory/ methods, data collection, analytical techniques and appraisal methods
• Good presentation skills
• Good appreciation of project risks
