Atkins Transportation Division covers all aspects of multidisciplinary design and management from inception to options appraisal through to detailed scheme design and delivery support as well as delivering design and build projects.

Due to continued growth at Atkins we are now looking for a Commercial Manager to be part of our Transportation team, delivering on Rail Projects in the South East. This role will be based in our London or Croydon office.

Atkins has a unique place in the UK Rail industry where we are both a major supplier to Network Rail on design and build signalling and communications contracts as well as being a multi-functional design engineer covering all the rail engineering disciplines either direct to the infrastructure owner or via a contractor.

Whilst rail experience is advantageous, we are very interested in talking to experienced candidates who have main contractor or subcontracting experience in the construction and/or rail industry.

Responsibilities:
• Develop relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external
• Manage a team of Quantity Surveyors and other members of the commercial team
• Develop and implement a project level Commercial Delivery Plan
• Develop and operate strategies to maximise project revenues and cash flow in Atkins favour
• Develop and implement a strategy by which conflict can be avoided or best managed
• Prepare and deliver a Contract Awareness briefing to the project management team including work package managers at commencement of the project.
• Ensure compliance with and correct administration of the contract terms and conditions
• Ensure timely submission of all contractual notices and supporting data
• Ensure timely preparation, submission and agreement of payment applications
• Lead the Change Control Process for both Client (external) and WPM (internal) changes and seek early resolution of contract changes
• Assist Project Management teams with advice and contractual support for project issues
• Support the bidding process, including the preparation of commercial contract reviews, the preparation of risk reports for internal legal review, the negotiation of favourable contract terms and conditions and the participation in risk reviews and assessments.
• Support the procurement of sub-contractors
• Lead the commercial management of sub-contractor accounts
• Liaise with project support functions such as finance, to ensure compliance with the company’s procedures and instructions, including all periodic reporting functions and GRN etc.
• Lead the commercial support for risk management
• Ensure that adequate records are maintained in respect of project issues and commercial management processes
• Support Project Cost Control Management including Work Package Management and Cost Value Reconciliations, ensuring variances between planned budget expenditure and incurred costs are identified, together with an audit trail of variances to the baseline budget and appropriate action taken to minimise costs and liabilities.
• Prepare periodic reports for the Client
• Support Client cost audits
• Lead Final Account submissions, negotiation and agreement
• Ensure best practice commercial standards are established and promoted across the project(s)
• Ensure adherence to Atkins internal governance processes across the project(s)
• Ensure insurance issues are managed in accordance with procedures
• Support the management of claims including liaising with internal legal consultants

Commercial lead for internal project reporting and governance, including Project Board Reviews, Project Health Assessments, Margin Improvement Plan reviews, Internal and External Project Audits, Stage gate reviews

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
