Buckinghamshire County Council has an exciting opportunity for a Transport Strategy Officer to join our Transport Strategy Team.

About the role

Buckinghamshire County Council’s Sustainable Transport Team is looking for a Transport Strategy Officer to co-ordinate a number of school travel planning initiatives and improve travel choices for local residents.

Based in Aylesbury or High Wycombe, a central part of the job will be working with schools, parents, teachers and others to promote the delivery of school travel plans using the Modeshift ‘STARS’ system.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to either lead, or support the delivery of, a number of active travel projects (such as Go for Gold, Footsteps and Walk To projects) and road safety programmes (such as Footsteps, Bikeability and the work of Junior Road Safety Officers). There will also be more generic work, including support for School Travel Co-ordinators.

Working with colleagues, other features of the job are likely to include advertising, marketing, promotion and the development of innovative mapping.

About you
Experience or detailed knowledge in the transportation field is not essential but you must be aware of the social, health and environmental benefits that active and sustainable travel choices can bring.

You should be able to use a computer for normal word processing and spreadsheet functions.

Developing partnerships - with school communities, Councillors, colleagues and others – is a key part of the role. As such you should be a skilled communicator with excellent interpersonal skills

You should also have the ability to work on your own initiative, as well as having a flexible approach to team working.
