Major Projects Manager

East Sussex County Council

East Sussex County Council

Major Projects Manager
£44,700 - £48,854
Lewes

Rewarding projects and community investment.
Make the connection.

Project management is all about connections, between colleagues, contractors and, most importantly, end users. As our Major Projects Manager, your challenge goes beyond simple delivery. We want you to lead from the front, adding innovation into our processes, so we can more effectively and safely connect families, friends and visitors with businesses, places and each other – all across our county.

The role
This is about managing our Major Projects workstream – a variety of transport and infrastructure projects focused on growth and place-making. As well as resource planning and budget controls, you’ll take a central role in procurement, working alongside other internal teams, and ensuring our ongoing relationships with external partners remain positive.

In turn, you’ll work with funding providers to develop studies and business cases to secure funds from Government and local infrastructure programmes.

The team
You’ll be joining our strategic and collaborative Major Projects and Growth Team to deliver vital transport, infrastructure and economic growth improvements. Current projects include work on Hastings and Eastbourne town centres, major transport infrastructure improvements to support housing and economic growth in South Wealden and along the A259 coastal corridor, and £70m of county-wide transport and economic infrastructure improvements.

About you
Ideally an experienced accredited project management professional, you’ll have a growing reputation for managing large-scale projects, and ensuring both they and your team adhere to a wider strategic approach. Able to ensure value is embedded throughout the project lifecycle, you’ll not only bring commercial acumen and exceptional planning skills but foster an ethos of continual improvement that enhances our work in every way. An effective leader you will also possess strong negotiation and communication skills, with an ability to build and maintain working relationships with a variety of internal colleagues, key stakeholders, and external partners.

We recognise the benefits of supporting our staff to work flexibly and there are a range of ways in which service delivery and personal commitments can be balanced. We offer staff the opportunity to work in a hybrid way where the nature of their job role makes this possible and in a culture that places value on outputs that drive forward our strategic objectives and benefits our residents. However we also recognise the importance of always retaining a strong sense of belonging and team identity. Additional benefits include a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension scheme, travel discounts, and more. But it’s the chance to create lasting connections across East Sussex you’ll find most attractive here, whilst being part of an excellent and rewarding team that is directly at the heart of driving sustainable economic growth, improving transport connectivity in the county and achieving net zero carbon emissions.

We make diversity, equity, and inclusion part of everything we do – our projects, our strategies and our workforce. It’s the only way to ensure our county gets the connections it needs and deserves.
