Environment Advisor

HS2

The Environment Advisor will support and manage the process of assessing the environmental impact and associated socio-economic implications of the HS2 project Phase 2B. To support the delivery of all relevant environmental deliverables to reflect the stage of the design cycle, working closely with route engineering and Technical Directorate to inform decision making in accordance with the organisational and sponsor requirements and policies in compliance with environmental law and regulations.

 About the role:

  • To support and manage, as required, the process for assessing environmental impact, and associated socio-economic implications, in accordance with the HS2 Sustainability Policy and Phase 2B Sustainability Plan.
  • To support environmental input into HS2 Ltd reports and briefings to Ministers to enable robust decision making.
  • Deliver high quality environmental support and advice to the project in order to help ensure the best possible outcomes from an environmental perspective.
  • To support stakeholder engagement, including attendance at public consultations.
  • Review outputs from environmental professional services consultants to maintain high quality, timely and assured external inputs and to provide challenge and assurance that the work undertaken is fit for purpose.
  • Work closely with the HS2 Technical Directorate Environmental and Engineering specialists to ensure project deliverables meet HS2 standards, requirements and specifications.
  • Provide on-the-job guidance and support to environmental assistants.
  • Maintain records and input relevant material to HS2 document control to ensure a full audit trail of documents is available to the HS2 programme and assist with FOI and EIR responses to ensure that statutory requirements are met.
  • Continue to develop professionally, maintaining technical competencies and identifying opportunities for learning new skills in order to meet work objectives more effectively.
  • Maintain audit trail of environmental deliverables and ensure consistency with other teams/directorates.

 

About You:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant environmental discipline.
  • Membership of professional organisation (e.g. IEMA, IEEM) with aspiration to become chartered.
  • Proven track record of working on environmental assessment, design and implementation of large-scale complex projects.
  • Good understanding of UK environmental legislation, policy and best practice guidance
  • Demonstrable evidence of dealing with environmental issues on, and delivering high quality reports for, large scale projects.
  • Experience of communicating with environmental stakeholders at local, regional and national levels/exposure to community liaison on sensitive issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and tenacious, ‘can-do’ attitude.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
