Would you like the opportunity to play a leading role in improving rail services across Greater Manchester, with future services focused on the needs of our expanding city region? Do you have experience of using data and information to make the case for service improvements? Are you excited by the opportunity to work in partnership with industry and user stakeholders to ensure the successful planning of local and regional rail services?

TfGM oversees transport in Greater Manchester, delivering and improving transport services, facilities and information to make travel easier for everyone. We deliver high-profile, large-scale transport projects, and it’s our experts who provide the information and analysis to shape transport strategy. This is a busy and exciting time for us: under the devolution agreement and with Greater Manchester at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse, transport will play a vital role in supporting growth and prosperity in the UK’s largest regional economy outside London.

The Rail Strategy Team at TfGM are seeking a Rail Services Development Officer. Reporting to the Rail Strategy Manager, you will provide support across the wider rail team in evidencing, planning and working with Train Operators, Rail North Partnership, Transport for the North, Network Rail and Department of Transport to develop rail service patterns across Greater Manchester.

In this role you will liaise with and develop good working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the best achievable outcomes for rail passengers. You will be able to effectively communicate future plans and service changes in both written and verbal formats, and relay these to stakeholders, including to the Mayor.

This is a highly analytical role in a continuously changing environment so you must be positive in your approach, flexible and adaptable and able to manage your own varied workload. You will also be able to analyse data from various data sources and in differing formats, and be capable of summarising and make logical recommendations. You must have a strong background knowledge of the Greater Manchester rail network, as well as the current nature of operations.

The salary for this role is £40,555 - £45,646 per annum. Salary on appointment within the salary band will be dependant on skills and experience. In return, as well as a competitive salary, we also offer a range of fantastic benefits, such as:

- Free Rail or Metrolink travel to and from work within the Greater Manchester boundary
- Free bus travel within Greater Manchester
- 27 days holiday per annum
- Access to the local government pension scheme

At TfGM we encourage candidates to discuss flexible working options at any stage of the recruitment process.

We welcome and encourage applications from everyone regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation. We are actively building a diverse workforce and want to create an inclusive environment as we recognise the importance of our workforce reflecting the communities we serve.

If you believe you have the skills and experience required for this role we would really like to hear from you!
